A built-in wine cooler should fit your kitchen as naturally as any other cabinet. The right choice comes down to two questions: how much space you have, and how visible you want the wine cooler to be. DUNAVOX offers three levels of integration, from undercounter models to fully integrated and panel-ready wine coolers that disappear completely behind a matching furniture front.
This guide explains the main types of built-in wine coolers, how they are ventilated, which heights are available and what to check before planning your cabinetry.
1. Undercounter: wine storage beneath the worktop
Undercounter wine coolers fit beneath kitchen worktops, breakfast bars and kitchen islands. The DUNAVOX Flow series is available in two heights, 82 cm and 88 cm, and in widths from 15 to 60 cm, with handle, recessed hidden handle or push-to-open door options. The Flow 39.TO, for example, uses front plinth ventilation, so it can be fitted into cabinetry without space at the rear. Adjustable feet, on models such as the Flow 32 and Flow 39.TO, let the height be aligned with the surrounding cabinetry and worktop.
2. Fully integrated: built into the cabinetry
Fully integrated wine coolers are installed inside the furniture line itself, from compact models to full-height columns. The Noble, Horizon and Prime series use an integrated ventilation system, so no visible ventilation grille is needed in the plinth. The kitchen keeps a clean, uninterrupted line.
3. Panel-ready: completely hidden behind a furniture front
The highest level of integration. Panel-ready models have an overlay panel-compatible door, so a furniture panel matching the rest of the kitchen can be fitted to the front. Once installed, the wine cooler is visually part of the cabinetry. Thanks to the integrated ventilation system, no visible ventilation grille is needed in the plinth, and push-to-open opening means no handle is needed. Niche dimensions and clearances are model-specific, so always confirm them for your chosen model before ordering cabinetry.
Every wine cooler needs airflow to work reliably, and the ventilation method determines how the appliance looks once installed.
Front plinth ventilation (for example, the Flow 32 and Flow 39.TO): the appliance is ventilated through the plinth at the front.
Integrated ventilation (Noble, Horizon and Prime): the ventilation is built into the appliance, so no visible plinth grille or extra ventilation cut-out is needed.
Always follow the ventilation requirements of the specific model. Our Built-in Wine Cooler Installation Guide explains them in detail.
Choose the level of integration: undercounter, fully integrated or panel-ready.
Confirm the model-specific dimensions: niche dimensions, clearances and, for panel-ready models, the furniture panel sizes depend on the chosen model.
Use the CAD files: DWG drawings are available for a growing number of DUNAVOX models, making planning easier for architects and kitchen studios.
Decide how the door opens: handle, recessed hidden handle or push-to-open for handleless kitchens.
Plan for your collection: choose single, dual or triple zone depending on whether you store one style of wine or several.
Kitchen islands and breakfast bars: an undercounter Flow model or an integrated model suitable for undercounter use, such as the Noble 25 or Noble 44.
Handleless, minimalist kitchens: fully integrated Noble models, which open with a handleless push-to-open door.
Kitchens where the appliance should disappear: a panel-ready model with a furniture front matching the rest of the cabinetry.
Full-height kitchen columns: the Noble 109 or Joy 89 for collector-scale storage inside the furniture line.
Three levels of integration in one range: undercounter, fully integrated and panel-ready models.
Heights from 595 to 1786 mm: from compact models to full-height kitchen columns.
Planning documents on the product pages: bottle loading plans, installation documentation and DWG CAD files for a growing number of models.
Finishes to match the kitchen: black, stainless steel, matt black and custom RAL colours on selected models, plus overlay panel fronts on panel-ready models.
Smart control: full-colour TFT touch screen with WiFi and the DUNAVOX Smart App on selected models, including the Noble series.
What is the difference between undercounter and fully integrated wine coolers?
An undercounter wine cooler sits beneath the worktop with its own door visible, while a fully integrated model is built into the cabinetry itself. Read more in Undercounter vs Fully Integrated Wine Fridges.
Can a wine cooler be hidden behind a kitchen cabinet door?
Yes. Panel-ready models, such as the Noble 32 DOP, Noble 109 DOP and Horizon 32 DOP, have an overlay panel-compatible door that can be fitted with a matching furniture panel.
Does a built-in wine cooler need a ventilation grille?
It depends on the model. Undercounter models such as the Flow 32 and Flow 39.TO use front plinth ventilation, while Noble, Horizon and Prime models have an integrated ventilation system that requires no visible plinth grille.
